Dream Serenade is the visionary work of Toronto parents Christie Greyerbiehl and musician/songwriter Hayden Desser to celebrate and support children with exceptionalities and their caregivers. Created in 2014 as a thank you and to raise funds for their daughter's school, Beverley Street School, the popular annual concert at Massey Hall (Roy Thomson Hall for the past two years) has now expanded to support other like-minded schools and care-centres in the GTA and raise funds that directly assist Toronto area families.
Dream Serenade has become one of Toronto's most highly anticipated annual events, combining the celebration of a hard working community while raising money and awareness for schools and services for children with developmental and/or physical disabilities and their caregivers. Past performers who have come together to support Dream Serenade and perform unique sets include Feist, Gord Downie, Matt Berninger and Aaron Dessner of The National, Broken Social Scene, Barenaked Ladies, Billy Talent, Sarah Harmer, Bahamas, The Persuasions, Sloan, City & Colour, Jim Cuddy, Sam Roberts, The Rural Alberta Advantage, July Talk, Tanya Tagaq, Dan Mangan and so many more.
The Dream Serenade Summer Bursary was created in 2018 and last year helped send 100 children to summer camp and/or access specialized summer programming. This year, the Summer Bursary was replaced by the COVID Family Relief Bursary to better meet the current needs of the community and provide relief to 144 families with children across 55 schools throughout the Greater Toronto Area. During this challenging time, Dream Serenade also worked with local teachers and Social Workers to support 36 families in the GTA with grocery vouchers in partnership with the Food for Kids program.
